Wild Winds – Has Your Roof Sustained Damage?

call  585-303-3478

With the recent wind storm here in the Rochester region, you might be concerned about any possible consequences to your home and property.  Winds can be damaging, even if it isn’t immediately obvious.  While a falling tree or even just a branch can obviously do damage to your roof, it is possible for the wind alone to take its toll.  According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, damaging winds are classified as those exceeding 50-60 mph.

What to look for:

Outside, take a look around your yard for any shingles which may have blown off your roof.  This is a clear sign that you need repairs.  With missing shingles, your roof system is compromised and they must be replaced .

Other damage may occur that is not so visible.  Damaged flashing can also cause problems.  This may result in leaks around fireplaces, ventilation, or skylights.

Inside, take a look in your attic.  With a flashlight, look for areas under the roof decking for any discoloration.  This might be water damage, and is cause for concern.

Any roof damage will likely need to be addressed by a trained professional. You should get it checked out sooner rather than later if you suspect you have a problem with your roof.  Delaying often results in further damage to the inside of your home should it begin to leak into your ceilings, drywall, or eventually your furniture and carpets.

We would be happy to assess and repair your roof.  Give us a call!
